In meeting contexts I've always preferred having handouts so I can make notes right on the content/context of the presentation or discussion. Especially if it's content I'm familiar with and am discussing rather than learning.
In a conference / education setting blank is better. Retention goes up and I'm more focused on the presentation.
I like the drawing. You can wait and give a necessary handout after the necessary presentation. If it's a presentation that isn't necessary or attention-getting, then your audience may not care about it.
Really sorry I didn't know about this conference. I actually had November 10th.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the handouts as takeaways mode these days. Also in the handouts as part of the email invite.
A coworker has taken to emailing reading materials to help folks prepare but not to be used as handouts. That has been having mixed results.
Great quote...

don't forget to give them a pen as well. ;")
ReplyDeletebe careful about giving blank paper to creatives; they're likely to doodle unflattering characatures of you as you present. :)
