I'm pleased to announce that I will be facilitating at VizThink 08, a new event that's kicking off this coming January in San Francisco.
Here's some information from the VizThink home page:
"Who are visual thinkers? Visual thinkers are people who use graphic design, images, pictures, video, animations, sketches, and other forms of visual art for communications and learning. Here's a list of the speakers that have confirmed so far. I'm excited that I will be facilitating workshops and dialogue with them. Click the links for more information.
VizThink will bring together several hundred participants from the best of the best in our industry with participation by trainers, marketers, presenters, executives, planners, strategists, and managers, just to name a few.
While each approach may be different, the attendees all share the same philosophy in the power of visualization for learning and communication. We believe that by bringing these diverse groups together, we'll create a community that can take the industry to a new level and invite you to take part."
1. Christine Martells, 2. Neil Cohn, 3. Nancy Duarte, 4. David Sibbet, 5. Nigel Holmes, 6. Eileen Clegg, 7. Robert Horn, 8. Stephen Few, 9. Dave Gray, 10. Karl Gude, 11. Scott McCloud, 12. Dan Rose
I'm also helping to organize the conference, so if you have ideas for speakers or sessions, please let me know in the comments section.
I'll be posting more about VizThink in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
Very interesting! I think i'll make the unification of your two paragraphs, below VizThink home page.
ReplyDeleteAll possible forms of visual art, provided in the visual thinking toolbox, can be synthesized creatively in a simple and concrete communication process, for the purpose of volume thinking! Have a nice day.
Man, this sounds good (start plotting to see how he can go... or how he can convince Dave to do it all again in Madrid...;-)
ReplyDeleteWow. I bet that there will be some good visual presentations come out of this -- and maybe even a monster mind map of the knowledge that's exchanged.
ReplyDeleteI'd appreciate more details about the sessions. The website lists speakers and their backgrounds, but doesn't say what they will discuss. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you for share the good news and congratulations for be a part of a great panel!
ReplyDeleteI am a big fan of Scott Mccloud. I am going to prepare some questions and comments to him.
Hi Mark,
ReplyDeleteI will pass on your request. In the meantime, what would you like to see happening in the sessions?
Dave
I teach computer programming so I would like sessions on integrating visual thinking into training.
ReplyDeleteHere are a few things I wrestle with:
- how to take something inherently textual like computer code and make it visual
- which colors and shapes show success/failure/time passing, etc.
- how to resolve the tension between in-class use (when the instructor is present) and after-class reference (when the student is on their own), i.e. how much detail to include on visual courseware elements
- how to decompose a large drawing into pieces that will each fit on a single PowerPoint slide
Thanks!
hi dave - I definitely plan to be there. I'd like to talk with the event organizer about an uber-visualization of the conference along the lines we have discussed in the past.
ReplyDeleteI also saw your work describing my son Scott's company Raydiance and the tattoo removal app. see Thoughts Illustrated: Congratulations to my son Scott - in the current issue of Wired
Hi Dave! I will introduce you to Tom Crawford, VizThink CEO.
ReplyDeleteHi Mark, thanks for your comments. We've been working hard to get the site ready to hold all more information about the conference. Today, we launched a revised home page, plus added pages for sessions, session formats and topics.
ReplyDeleteWe won't have all of the session topics up for 6 or 7 more weeks, but we'll be adding them to those pages as they come in, so check back frequently for more updates. As always, all changes and additions are announced on the blog, so you can subscribe to updates at http://www.vizthink.com/blog.
Thanks for your interest. I hope to see you at the conference!
