The resume of the future

Paul Goode just sent me my first video message.

This video thing is definitely the wave of the future. There used to be financial barriers to this kind of thing. Publishing is rapidly becoming the province of everyone who has a computer and internet access. The walls continue to crumble.

I know Mr. Goode well, having had the pleasure of working with him in the past. This animation is indicative of his talented, cool, silly, easy, fun, and informative approach to communicating. I'm going to go watch that again.

Last fall I did a video piece using screencasting and still images when I needed to present my blog and other online work in a venue where connection to the internet was not possible. The video bio was well-received, and I later updated it and stuck it on YouTube and on my own website as well.

The available tools for doing this kind of thing are WONDERFUL and so easy to use - SnapzPro, iMovie, and GarageBand, among others. I think you are right, and we will be seeing a lot more of this kind of resume in the future.

Thanks for posting this, Dave.

I guess the other half of my "resume of the future" was the heart-warming e-mail message that accompanied the video.

As a bonus, Jay Haas, my former boss, found your posting immediately via RSS and alerted me to it. I need to PayPal him a beer.

Video resumes may just be the thing of the very near future as companies higher more "virtual" (not on-sight) employees.

Hey Dave. Hope you're well. I'm enamored with video. I've been using it at New Media School to teach people about podcasting.

We're doing lots of free education for video enthusiasts at PodCamp in Boston Sept 9-10. Can't beat FREE.

What are you doing? Maybe drag yourself and all of Communication Nation on a road trip?

I made something like this a few years ago when I was making animatics.

Actually it's an animatic about animatics. I've had the thought in the back of my head to make something now. Now this has brought that thought further forward.

Funny though, it's a way to stand out right now, but what's the next big thing?
